Unicell® Primer

Priming, Bonding and Passifying Agent for Concrete and Steel Reinforcement

Unicell® Primer is a liquid bonding and priming aid which requires mixing with OPC to form a brushable slurry with exceptional performance characteristics. Onto steel reinforcement, Unicell® Primer forms a passifying layer, a tough flexible barrier against damaging ions and oxidation plus a strong bond to subsequent construction. Onto concrete substrates, Unicell® Primer provides enhanced bonding and a barrier to water and ion ingress. Designed specifically for use with Sika’s Unicell® range of mortars and renders, Unicell® Primer is also compatible with most cementitious mortars, renders, concretes and screeds.

Stored properly in undamaged and unopened original sealed packaging in the dry conidions at temperature range from +5 oC to +35 oC. Protect from direct sunlight and frost.

Application steps

APPLICATION

Concrete surfaces to be primed must first be wetted with clean water. Remove any excess water before priming. To mix pour the Unicell® Primer liquid into a suitable mixing vessel and slowly add the cement mixing with a slow speed drill and paddle (typically 500 rpm). The addition of cement should be at the ratio of either 1 part Unicell® Primer to 1.5 parts OPC by volume or 1 part Unicell® Primer to 2 parts OPC by weight. Once mixed prime any steel reinforcement and allow the primer to become tacky. Then brush apply a second coat of primer to the reinforcement and a first of the concrete. Whilst the primer is wet/tacky it should be over coated with the Unicell® 25, Unicell® 40 or Unicell® WF. If the primer should dry it must be cross hatch scratched and reapplied.
