Sika® Membrane-2000

Polymer based, elastic waterproofing membrane

Sika® Membrane-2000 is a single component, liquid applied SBR Latex membrane. It is water based, free of solvents and plasticisers. Sika® Membrane-2000 is flexible and elastomeric, and displays outstanding waterproofing features with low water vapour transmission properties and the ability to withstand permanently wet conditions without re-emulsification of the cured membrane. Suitable for a wide range of waterproofing and vapour proofing applications, external and internal areas. It is designed for waterproofing wet areas, showers, laundries, roofs, terraces, balconies, decks, concrete slabs and general structures that will be covered over with toppings, tile beds or overlay finishes.

Usage

  • Under screeds (or above screeds) to provide a damp proof membrane
  • Can be used under render, plaster or tiles as a water barrier or vapour barrier
  • As waterproof membrane on inverted roofs, roof gardens, polystyrene sheet insulation roofs
  • As secondary protection under tiles in wet areas e.g. bathrooms, food processing areas, balconies etc
  • As gas barrier to minimize methane transmission and other vapours

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Sika® Membrane-2000 can be applied over:

  • Concrete, render and masonry
  • Aerated concrete panels and blocks

It is recommended to check adhesion to the substrates by testing on a sample area before starting any job. All substrates must be structurally sound, stable and clean (compressive strength : minimum 25 N/mm2 and cohesive strength : minimum 1.5 N/mm2). Smooth shiny surfaces are to be roughened or etched. Rough surfaces are to be evened or filled first. All surfaces are to be free of sharp protruding surfaces, loose material, de-bonded coatings, curing membranes, release agents, wax residues, laitance, algae and moss, oils, etc.

Structurally unsound layers and surface contaminants are to be mechanically removed by abrasive blasting, blast tracking, grinding or equivalent methods.

   

Priming

On very absorbent surfaces, a primer coat diluted with 10 % water may be applied at 0.3 kg/m2. Care should be taken to ensure the required membrane final dry film thickness is achieved.

MIXING

Prior to application, stir Sika® Membrane-2000 thoroughly for 3 minutes in order to achieve a homogeneous mixture.

APPLICATION

Sika® Membrane-2000 can be applied by brush, roller or airless spray directly onto the clean substrate. 

Apply subsequent coats at different directions to the previous coat coverage is dependent upon surface condition and will vary according to surface’s evenness and porosity.

Consumption / Coverage

A minimum 2 coats at wet film thickness of 0.8 mm  per coat is required to provide a vapour barrier.

(This is equivalent to approximately 1.5 Litres/m2)

 

 

Waiting Time / Overcoating

Before applying each coat, the previous coat must be touch dry (approx. 4 hrs.)  Subsequent coats should be applied within a max. period of 24 hrs.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with clean water immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically.
