Check Lap Kok, Hong Kong
Project Requirements
The Hong Kong Link Road project involves the design and construction of a 9.4km long viaduct section that supporting dual three-lane carriageways over deep waters. The project posed a wide range of
critical challenges, including the bridge had to be designed to last 120 years, earthquake
resistance, withstand the strong wind, complex marine conditions, restricted land access, string dolphin monitoring works, deep rock head levels, and need to supply concrete using a floating batching plant.
Sika Solution
Sika® ViscoCrete®-1200NT – High Range Superplasticizer had been used to produce > 200,000 m³ of the concrete for the foundation works.
- High Flow workability for easily placing (based on the good durability design, the concrete consist of silica fume and with low w/c ratio)
- Due to the logistic problem, the slump retention of concrete up to 5 hours.
- Improved shrinkage and creep behavior.
- Reduced rate of carbonation of the concrete.
